For the 60th World Day of Social Communications, Pope Leo XIV has gifted us a profound and timely message: "Preserving Human Voices and Faces." In an era rapidly dominated by Artificial Intelligence, deepfakes, and algorithmic echo chambers, the Holy Father reminds us that our faces and voices are sacred—they are the indelible reflections of God's love.
We are called not to reject technology, but to master it. We must guide our youth and families to be critical thinkers who prioritize authentic, face-to-face human connections over simulated, artificial relationships.
To help our parishes celebrate this day meaningfully, especially keeping our young people (ICYM & YCS) at the centre, the Commission proposes the following Action Plan and Liturgical Guide.

For the 60th World Day of Social Communications (May 17, 2026), Pope Leo XIV’s message, “Preserving human voices and faces,” warns that AI simulation risks replacing authentic human relationships and distorting reality. The message calls for AI to serve human dignity, emphasises that communication is an anthropological—not just technological—challenge, and urges responsible, transparent, and ethical communication.
📖 Pope Leo calls for a new alliance to guide digital innovation based on three pillars:
Responsibility
Cooperation
Education
Communication must return to the "original nucleus of the person," ensuring that technology serves as a tool to facilitate human life rather than replace it.

Here are creative and spiritually enriching ways to celebrate the 60th World Day of Social Communications in the parishes of the Diocese of Mangalore, aligning with the theme:
Theme: "Preserving Human Voices and Faces."
Focus: The urgency of introducing “Media and Artificial Intelligence Literacy (MAIL)
We strongly encourage parishes to implement at least two of the following activities during the month of Social Communications:
1. "Face-to-Face" Youth Summit (ICYM / YCS)
What: A half-day interactive workshop on "AI & Media Literacy."
Action: Invite a local tech expert or educator to discuss how algorithms shape what we see, how to spot deepfakes, and the dangers of "virtual influencers" and emotional reliance on AI chatbots.
Goal: To equip the youth with critical thinking skills so they are not manipulated by digital platforms, as emphasized by Pope Leo XIV.
2. "Unplugged" Sunday: A Digital Detox Challenge
What: A parish-wide challenge announced after Sunday Mass.
Action: Encourage families to keep all digital devices (phones, tablets, TVs) switched off from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday. Instead, they must spend this time playing traditional games, talking face-to-face, or visiting the sick/elderly.
Goal: To break the "world of mirrors" created by screens and foster real human empathy and active listening.
3. "Real Voices, True Faces" Creative Arts Fest
What: A parish talent showcase (singing, poetry, short skits) strictly without the use of digital backing tracks, AI-generated scripts, or synthetic music.
Action: Let the youth organize an acoustic evening.
Goal: A direct response to the Pope's warning about human creativity being replaced by the "Powered by AI" label. Celebrate raw, God-given human talent.
4. Tech-Assist Sunday: Bridging the Generational Gap
What: A post-Mass help desk run by ICYM/YCS members for senior citizens.
Action: Youth assist the elderly with their smartphones—teaching them how to spot fake news on WhatsApp, recognize digital fraud, and protect their privacy and profile pictures from misuse.
Goal: Fostering intergenerational relationships while promoting digital safety and education.
